FAQ
Why do you put out so many Christmas lights?
That's a good question - I'm not sure myself! I will say that seeing the joy in people's faces (especially the younger kids and older generation) makes all the work worthwhile. So consider it my way of spreading the Holiday Cheer!
What does your wife, kids, neighbors think of all of this?
While she's not always happy ("why did you buy MORE lights?!?"). She's a pretty good sport. It's a'lotta work doing the design, setup, and take down. My son Steven is a big help and while my daughter has no interest in putting up the lights she does give us her input as to how they look once they're up. The neighbors enjoy the lights and enjoy giving me a hard time about thinking about Christmas in July.
What was new and different for the 2007 year?
We changed our arch design and added some pre-lit trees. The biggest change was the addition of LED lights. We anticipated that this would change the whole look of our display. We also used a snow machine and put on a small light show.
What's new and different for the 2011 year?
The green lights on the MEGA tree are now LED and a star element has been added! FOUR new songs have been included in the rotation and blue lights have been added to the roof.
How did you get started?
Ever since we were kids we have enjoyed lights. Our Christmas light collection is just something that grows year to year. Each year we want to make our display bigger and better.
When do you start the the installation process?
We start pulling things down from the attic in October. We prep the yard for the final time, get poles up and framing done early in November. Lights get installed mid-November and the testing is completed the week before Thanksgiving.
When do the lights go on?
Thanksgiving night at 6pm sharp!
How long does your season last?
Our last night will be January 1st (...maybe later). Happy New Year!
What are your show times?
Sunday-Thursday: 6:00 - 9:30
Friday & Saturday: 6:00 - 11:00
On Christmas Eve we run the show until we run out of cars!
Where do you get all these Christmas lights?
Most of our lights are ordered from an online vendor. We use Wal-Mart and Target for replacements. LEDs cost more but are an all around better choice for lights and will last longer!
Where do you store all these Christmas lights?
In the attic, however, if you live in Florida you know first hand that the attics here aren’t the biggest, so everything we have has our patented folding technology. 2008 was the first year that everything didn't fit. We had our cone shaped mini tree's are to thank for that. They were too big!
How many LED's do you have?
We started to migrate to the LED world in 2008. LED's were still very expensive but we managed to go 85% LED. Now, in 2011, we are almost 100% LED except for a couple of old school favorites that were made before the LED explosion. Can someone say GO GREEN?!
How am I able to hear your music in my car radio?
We have a low powered FM Transmitter that enables a broadcast area of about 400 - 500 FT from our garage. The FM Transmitter that we are using is from Moblie Black Box and I am beyond happy with this product!!! Tune in to 102.1 FM once you arrive and enjoy the some of the 23 songs we have for this year!!
What type of wiring, fuses, etc. do you have for this?
We constructed and added eight 20 amp circuits dedicated to the lights alone. We use around 250 extension cords (many of which are custom made by us) to get everything hooked up. The
Light-O-Rama Controllers will get plugged into these circuits. Each unit has it's own plug.
Do your lights dim when the lights go on and off?
No, they never have. We just shut down TECO Power for a couple of months. : )
Can you "hear" the lights when they go on and off?
Sounds like a dumb question, but we actually can’t.
