FAQ
General Questions
Q-1: Why do you put out so many Christmas lights?
A-1: That's a good question - I'm not sure myself! I will say that seeing the joy in people's faces (especially the younger kids and older generation) makes all the work worthwhile. So consider it my way of spreading the Holiday Cheer! ;-)
Q-2: What does your wife/kids/neighbors/etc. think of all of this?
A-2: While she's not always happy ("why did you buy MORE lights?!?"), She's a pretty good sport. It's a lotta work doing the design, setup, and takedown, and my son Steven is a big help. My daughter has no interest in putting up the lights, but does give us her input as to how they look. The neighbors enjoy the lights and giving me a hard time about thinking about Christmas in July.
Q-3: What's new and different for the 2007 year?
A-3: we have changed our arch design and will be adding some pre-lit trees. the biggest change for us this year is the addition of LED lights. We anticipate that this will change the whole look of our display. We are also going to try using a snow machine and putting on a small light show.
Q-4: How did you get started?
A-4: Every since we've been kids we've been we have enjoyed lights. Christmas lights is just something that grows year to year. Each year we want to make our display bigger and better.
Q-5: When do you start the the installation process?
A-5: 3 weeks before thanksgiving. Every year we start later and later.
Q-6: When do the lights go on?
A-6:Thanksgiving night Nov. 27, 2008
Q-7: How long does your season last?
A-7:For the 2008 season our last night will be January 1st. Happy New Year!
Q-8: What are your show times?
Sunday-Thursday: 6:00 - 9:30
Friday & Saturday: 6:00 - 11:00
As we get closer to the holioday season, if we still have cars in front of the display then we will continue to run it. On christmas eve we run the show till we run out of cars! So if we have cars still coming at 1 am, then the show will continue to run.
Questions about the lights themselves
Q-1: Where do you get all these xmas/christmas lights?
A-1: Wal-Mart and Target they have the best prices. We also shop online. We try to only buy our LED's from online. They do cost more but are better lights and will last you longer!
Q-2: Where do you store all these Christmas lights?
A-2 In the attic, however if you live in Fl, you know first hand that the attics aren’t the biggest, so everything we have has our patented folding technology. 2008 is the first year that everything isnt going to fit. Oyr cone/mini tree's are to big!
Q-3: How many LED's do you have?
A-3: I've seen more and more of these in the last few years. We are now starting to migrate to the LED world. LED's are still very expensive. But for the 2008 season we are 85% LED and we hope to grow in future years! But in the long run, it saves maony in power, the amount of bulbs used, etc.
Q-4: hOW ARE YOU ABLE TO LISTEN TO THE MUSIC IN THE CAR?
A-4: We bought a low powered FM Transmitter that enables to broadcast 400 - 500 FT from our garage. The FM Transmitter that we are using is from Moblie Black Box. I am beyaond happy with this product!!!
Electrical Issues
Q-1: What type of wiring/fuses/etc. do you have for this?
A-1: We have 8, 20 amp circuits dedicated to just the lights. Those circuits did not come with house, we added them just for the lights We use around 20 extention cords to get everything hooked up. The LIght-O-Rama Controllers will get plugged into this. Each unit has it's own plug.
Q-2: Do your lights dim when the lights go on and off?
A-2: No, they never have we just shut down the Teco Power co. for a couple of months.
Q-3: Can you "hear" the lights when they go on and off?
A-3:Sounds like a dumb question, but we actually can’t.
